FIUTS Homestay & Friendship Programs

"Hosting a foreign student is one of the very best ways to promote world peace." -Current FIUTS Host

"Hosting Maja from Macedonia has been such a pleasure and we’ve made a life-long friend as well." -Current FIUTS Host

FIUTS believes that our world is richer and more peaceful when people have opportunities to share experiences and build friendships that extend beyond borders, politics, and stereotypes. The FIUTS homestay program places new international students and scholars in the homes of volunteer community hosts for their first week in the Northwest. Hosts support students during the transition period and serve as their initial introduction to American culture and life in Seattle. These relationships continue throughout the students’ time at the UW and beyond, with many hosts later visiting their past students and their families in their home countries abroad.

The FIUTS Homestay Program is unique as it lasts only one week.

hostfamilyFIUTS Hosts make a remarkable difference in the experience of UW international students – they offer a warm welcome and a deeper understanding of our local region and culture.  At the same time, FIUTS hosts learn about the diversity of the world and their lives are enriched through friendships with people from other cultures.

By participating in FIUTS Homestay & Friendship Connection programs, hosts and students are a part of creating a more peaceful world, one relationship at a time.
